Automating eBay orders on AliExpress safely

In short

Order automation reads a paid eBay order, buys the same variation on AliExpress with the buyer’s address, and gives eBay the tracking number when it ships. Done safely it checks five things first: the order is paid and not already bought, the variation still exists and is in stock, the cost is under your limit, the sale does not lose money, and the address is one AliExpress accepts.

Placing an order by hand takes five minutes and one typing mistake. Placing a hundred by hand takes a working day, and that is the day a seller starts making mistakes.

Automation removes the typing. It should not remove the judgement, so this is what has to be checked before any money is spent.

What happens, step by step

  • A buyer pays for an order on eBay
  • The order is matched to the AliExpress product and the exact variation that was sold
  • The current price, stock and delivery to the buyer’s country are read again
  • The order is placed and paid on your AliExpress account, to the buyer’s address
  • When AliExpress ships, the tracking number is given to eBay and the order is marked shipped

The checks that stop an expensive mistake

CheckWhat it prevents
Paid, and not already orderedBuying twice, or buying for an unpaid order
Same variation, still in stockSending the wrong size or colour
Cost under your limitA supplier’s mistaken price being paid without question
Cost and fees below the sale priceFulfilling at a loss when the price rose after listing
Address AliExpress acceptsAn order refused, or sent to the wrong city

Anything that fails a check should wait for you, with the reason shown, rather than be skipped silently or forced through.

Addresses: where orders are refused

AliExpress does not take a free-typed state and city. It takes values from its own lists, and an eBay address with “Calif.” for a state, a city spelt differently, or a nine-digit ZIP code in the wrong form can be refused outright.

The address has to be fitted to AliExpress’s lists before the order is sent, with the original kept so eBay’s record is unchanged. An address that will not fit should be shown to you with the closest matches, not guessed.

Paying for orders

An order is placed with a payment method saved on your AliExpress account. Automation needs that method to work without a confirmation step, so keep a card on the account that does not ask for a code every time.

Remember the timing. You pay the supplier today; eBay pays you after its payout period. Automatic ordering makes that gap larger, faster.

Tracking back to eBay

Marking an order shipped should follow the supplier really shipping it. When AliExpress shows a tracking number, it goes to eBay. When it shows shipped with no number yet, the order can be marked shipped and the number added when it arrives.

Decide in advance what happens when the supplier is slow and your handling time is about to pass. That is a choice between a late shipment and telling eBay something has shipped when it has not, and it should be yours to make, knowingly.

Questions

Is it safe to let software place orders with my money?
It is as safe as its limits. Set a maximum cost per order and a hold on any order that would lose money, and check that the same order can never be bought twice.
Why did AliExpress reject my order’s address?
Most often because the state or city is not written the way AliExpress’s own list has it, or the postcode does not match the city. Correct the address to AliExpress’s spelling and place it again.
Can Amazon orders be automated the same way?
Not through an official route. Amazon gives sellers no API for buying as a customer, so tools either leave Amazon orders to you or drive a browser on your behalf, which Amazon’s conditions of use restrict.
What if the price went up after the item sold?
You either fulfil at the new cost or cancel, and a cancellation for being unable to supply counts as a defect on eBay. Frequent price checks before a sale are what prevent the choice.
