AliExpress DELIVERY_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

DELIVERY_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

A delivery request comes back with DELIVERY_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and a code in the 500s. Unlike a refusal naming your address, this one says nothing about the product at all.

It is about the request, not the product

This is AliExpress’s general "could not process that" answer. It appears when something in the request cannot be resolved — a country code in the wrong case, a variation identifier that means nothing, a parameter left out — and it appears when nothing is wrong at all and the service is simply busy.

The same request that produces it often succeeds a minute later untouched, which is the clearest sign that it is not a verdict on the product.

What to check

  • The country code, which must be the two-letter code in capitals: US, not us
  • That a variation identifier was sent, and that it belongs to the product being asked about
  • That the required fields were all sent — several are mandatory and their absence produces unrelated-looking errors
  • Whether it succeeds on a second attempt, which tells you it was momentary

Retrying is part of the answer

Because it is so often transient, a single failure should not be shown to anybody as a fact. Asking again two or three times with a short pause turns most of these into a quote.

What should not happen is treating one exception as proof that a product cannot be delivered, which is how a sellable product gets written off.

Questions

Is it the same as delivery not being available?
No. Not available is an answer about the product; a service exception means the request could not be processed at all.
How many times should it be retried?
Two or three, with a pause. Beyond that, check the request itself.
Could it be a rate limit?
Rate limiting normally announces itself as such. If requests are being sent quickly, slow them down and see whether it clears.
